Black Russian Terriers become very protective as they mature. Black Russian Terriers only bark when there is a good reason. Black Russian Terriers, females especially, love to play with children. Black Russian Terriers do fine with other animals, are easy to housebreak, and are easy to train. Black Russian Terriers can live in an apartment if they get plenty of exercise.

The Black Russian Terrier was conceived as a less aggressive version of a German Shepherd. Black Russian Terriers were bred exclusively by the USSR state owned kennel, The Red Star Kennel, until 1957. Black Russian Terriers are good at pulling carts.
